Constantly Fearing You'll Fail?
by Andrea Waltz
What should you do if you are constantly fear failing?
You must make a choice.
Decide if the constant fear is something you can live with and if it’s worth experiencing for success.
A lot of people decide that they do not want to feel the fear. So, they play it safe. If you take this option, it doesn’t make you "less than." It just makes you a person who has made a choice not to go through
pain and discomfort. But keep in mind, you may also lose out on the rewards of success.
If you did decide to go forward, I can assure you that a lot of your fear would subside.
People who are out playing the game of life, trying things, inventing things, starting things, and doing things just get used to being a little scared. Yet the longer you do something the better you get and the less you fear it.
I was terrified when I started speaking to groups. Now I get a little nervous if at all. That is due simply to growing confident through exposure.
Now... does all fear go away? Not entirely.
It's like being on an airplane with turbulence. It may make you nervous at first but after a while, you just let go and realize that it's going to be there all the time. You get used to it.
A final point about fearing failure. Ray Higdon, our co-author recently said, "you aren't scared of failing, you're scared of someone seeing you fail."
Could this be true for you? You must not live your life based on what other people think of you or your choices. That’s the real failure.
