A few years ago, Joe Maddon led the Chicago Cubs to their first World Series win since 1908.
Here's what he said: "Don't ever permit the pressure to exceed the pleasure. That's on the top of my lineup card every night."
In the world of personal development there is a certain pressure to succeed. Pressure to win.
In sales, there is pressure to close.
These pressures can sabotage you.
The irony is you can end up getting more NOs by putting pressure on yourself to get a yes than by simply having a go for no mindset.
The essence of go for no is to take the pressure off. That doesn't mean you don't care, or aren't interested in success or results. It doesn't mean you don't take lots of action or do your absolute best.
Always, always, always do your best.
But when you remove that internal pressure, you are free to enjoy the process, take a few chances, and have fun.
You know, like the Cubs did in the World Series. And they finally won.
