Richard and I hope this note finds you well.
Yesterday, someone messaged me on Linkedin and asked, "How have you been able to exercise courage in the midst of all that we're in?"
Here was my answer:
I suppose it's waking up everyday with this equation:
Uncertain of what the day will bring + unsure of what the future will look like + various fears that arise from all the uncertainty + taking action anyway = exercising courage.
This situation is forcing us all to "exercise our courage." By the way, when I am not exercising my courage, I'm taking a nap or drinking red wine while watching Ozark on Netflix. :)-
Seriously though, all the traits that we forged in the good and "easier" times are being brought to bear. Things like self-awareness, gratitude, resilience, optimism and of course, courage. These traits are no longer
part of nice quotes and platitudes, they are the tools we must rely on.
We don't just believe resilience is important. We are living it.
We don't just think courage is helpful. We are using it.
We don't just talk about optimism. We have to speak it ourselves.
Benjamin Disraeli said, "There is no education like adversity."
Whatever your experience may be during this time, you're building traits that will serve you going forward. Even if you are not "exercising" in any other way... you're exercising courage. Because whatever actions you are taking during all this, it's being done in the face of massive uncertainty.
Oh, this is so much more than education. It's first hand experience. It will serve you.
