Personally, I have been through what felt like the five stages of grief.
1. Denial. (This is not happening.)
2. Anger. (WTF?!)
3. Bargaining. (Well, maybe...)
4. Depression. (That's it. I'm having a grilled cheese.)
5. Acceptance. (Okay, what is in my control and what can I accomplish?)
So, as much as the external world is in chaos, with acceptance you realize how much we are still in control of our internal world. As bad as things may get, we still get to choose how we think.
We've chosen to keep creating and are working on some new Go for No "workbooks." We've chosen to keep learning and downloaded a bunch of new audio books from Audible. And we're getting out for walks. We are planning for the future.
I hope no matter your circumstances, you are choosing those things that will best serve you. (Hint: it's not watching the news for more than twenty minutes.)
Here is the good news: we're descendants of the survivors from all of the illnesses that have been on the planet. We’re uniquely qualified to face this. And as difficult as this is, it’s still the most “comfortable” pandemic in all of human history.
In his book Antifragile, Nassim Nicholas Taleb says: “Antifragility is beyond resilience or robustness. The resilient resists shocks and stays the same; the antifragile gets better.”
We will get better on the other side of this. You can be better on the other side of this.
