New Year, New Opportunity
by Andrea Waltz
You have a choice this year. You can do everything in your power to insulate yourself from rejection or you can choose to use it and grow from it.
Now you might be thinking but Andrea, I’d rather work on my strengths, focus on what I’m good at. I can't deal with rejection. I’m all for using your strengths too. But fear of failure and rejection is like second hand smoke - if it’s around, you'll be affected.
You might also say, well I don't cold call and I'm building a business to shield myself from rejection. Seriously, that's the game plan? Hiding from a fear?
From a business or sales standpoint, no matter how much “social selling” you engage in or content marketing to drive leads your way (all FABULOUS by the way, I do those things, too) you must be prepared to handle rejection. Or perceived rejection. Why?
Because your comfort zone is either expanding or contracting. Today’s minor fear of rejection is tomorrow’s major fear of rejection and then later… fear of communication. Then what?
Someone said you don’t GO through life you GROW through life.
Is the answer really to just affirm this fear, embrace it and then hide? Or can you make a better choice?
Viktor Frankl said, “Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.” That choice to fear or to change is empowering isn’t it? Choose wisely. Happy new year!
