I've always loved the mythology around St. Patrick's Day.
I used to think that there was really was a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Literally, I did. Because my Mom (in addition to talking up the tooth fairy, Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny) fueled my childhood fantasy world with plenty of stories. Including the one that if you found the end of a rainbow there'd be a pot of gold.
So, when we did see a rainbow, which was pretty rare in Southern California where I grew up, I thought all the adults were so stupid not to at least chase after it. I mean, come on let's at least give it a shot and drive over there, right? Maybe we'd get to it before the rainbow disappeared?
So frustrating! If I could have driven at age 7, I can assure you I'd be chasing rainbow ends at a moment's notice.
But, here's the thing. What I know as an adult today is, that pot of gold is actually there.
Now it's just called our dream.
Maybe it's the one we don't share. And we talk ourselves out of it because we don't know if it's worth chasing after. Maybe it will disappear when we get there?
But also maybe it's time to tap back into that childhood wonder when we used to fantasize and believe that crazy things were possible.
I don't know what your pot of gold is or where it is, but I hope you are chasing after it.
