Is Fear Beating You? by Andrea Waltz & Richard Fenton You often hear the phrase, 'face your fear.' If you did face your fear and you could have the opportunity to
talk to it, what would it say? The better question is, would it tell you the truth?
Fear doesn't tell the truth. It lies to us all of the
time. Fear is not logical or rational. As a result, it is no surprise that people write to us constantly unable to move past the fear - unable to start or unable finish. Why is this happening?
We believe that because of early
(and old) programming, most people are operating from a mindset of proving their value and worth by succeeding. When they cannot move forward it's because of the chance that they may not succeed.
It might stem from the need or desire to please. It might be the need or desire to be perfect.
Whatever the case, if we were going to tell someone the one line that they should say to their fear? "You are not trying to prove anything to anyone right now." This is why we say people need to give themselves 'permission to fail.'
Especially, when it comes to applying 'Go for No' people need to understand that they are not trying to demonstrate any great skill or magnificent talent: they merely need to try. And action is
required!
