NOteworthy Thought of the Month

"The moment you commit and quit holding back, all sorts of unforeseen incidents, meetings and material assistance, will rise up to help you. The simple act of commitment is a powerful magnet for help." - Napoleon Hill

Are You Haunted by Rejection?
by Andrea Waltz

Our bad experiences with rejection can literally haunt us. I thought of this when we were watching a very scary movie called 'The Conjuring.' (It's a pretty good movie if you're into scary movies.)  In the movie, ghosts were haunting the family and physically (although you could not see them) hanging all over the people in the house.

Negative past experiences with rejection and 'going for no' are like ghosts... they can haunt us for long periods of time afterward making us feel ashamed, embarrassed, or silly for having tried reaching out to someone and then getting (metaphorically) 'slapped' down for trying.

You can't let yourself be haunted by the ghosts of your past.  It's something we've come to call The Poltergeist Effect. Described in folklore as a spirit, ghost or troublesome manifestation of an imperceptible entity that haunts a person, poltergeists can scare us into a state of inaction that literally stops us, dead in our tracks.

But what if we could view these pesky memories for what they really are? Memories! Better still, what if we could change these haunting memories into things we treasure with pride, or look back on with amusement rather than embarrassment? Instead of shrinking into ourselves, staying within our comfort zone we were out there trying and attempting.

How you decide to view your past rejections - to be scared and 'haunted' by them, or to embrace them with humor, pride, or at least in a neutral way - will ultimately determine your ability to move forward and achieve amazing things. Boo.

This Month's Trivia Answer

The Super Bowl is measured in Roman numerals because a football season runs over two calendar years. Also, apparently no network footage exists of Super Bowl I. It was reportedly taped over (for a soap opera, according to some rumors).
