Still Carrying Past Rejections?
by Richard Fenton & Andrea Waltz

There is a popular Zen story about two monks. They were returning to their monastery one evening after a rain and there were puddles of water along the road. At one point in the road, a lovely beautiful young woman was standing unable to walk accross because of a large puddle of water. The elder of the two monks went up to her, lifted her, crossed through the puddles and set her on the other side of the road, continuing his way to the monastery.

That evening the younger monk came to the elder monk and said, "Sir, as monks, we cannot touch a woman?"  The elder monk answered "yes, brother".  Then the younger monk asked, "but then how is that you lifted that woman on the roadside?"

The elder monk smiled at him and replied, "I picked her up just one time and left her on the other side of the road, but apparently, you are still carrying her."

Sometimes we can end up holding onto past experiences - things people that have done that hurt us or negative experiences like rejections. While challenging at first, it's important not to let past rejections to influence how you think and feel and what you choose to do today. You could end up carrying them with you far too long and far too far.

NOtable Quotables from the Go for No! Movie

"I don't get No as much as I used to - I enjoy it maybe more when I do, I really do, because how could they dare say No to me. Now I just look at it in life as a challenge, well, I've got to do something better, I've got to be smarter, I've got to approach it differently, so that's how I look at every No right now." - Larry Winget

This Month's Trivia Answer

According to the company that makes it: WD-40 stands for 'Water Displacement 40th attempt' (straight out of the lab book used by the chemist who helped develop WD-40 back in 1953, Norm Larsen.) He was attempting to concoct a formula to prevent corrosion, a task which is done by displacing water. His persistence paid off when he perfected the formula for WD-40 on his 40th try.
