NOvember 2012 |  from Go for No!
NOteworthy Thought of the Month

"As long as you're trying to be someone else, or putting on some act or behavior someone else taught you, you have no possibility of truly reaching people. The most valuable thing you have to give people is yourself. No matter what you think you're selling, what you're really offering is you." - Bob Burg and John David Mann, The Go Giver

This Month's Trivia Question

Another presidential election come and gone. You probably have a good idea who the tallest president has been, doubtful you know the smallest. Think you kNOw? Find out below!

This Month's NOtivational Article

The Easy Sale (a.k.a Life Changing Soup)
by Richard Fenton & Andrea Waltz

We admit it, we are foodies. We love dining out, and do it all too often. One of the dining experiences we'll never forget was in Los Angeles at a restaurant in West L.A. called La Boheme. Besides great food, they are known for their somewhat eclectic atmosphere, which could best be described as 'gothic.'

The first time there we are shown to our table, a couple minutes later we're given our menus, all perfectly timed. Sitting there looking at the menu, we spy the Soup of the Day... which is $12. Now, this was a few years ago and this place is very nice, but $12 seemed pretty steep! When our waiter came over (his name was Mark, and we were already on a first-name basis) we couldn't help but ask: "So, Mark, what can you tell us about the soup of the day?

Mark did not stall... nor did he 'hem and haw'... stammer or clear his throat.  Instead, he closed his eyes, took a deep breath - inhaling as if the most exquisite aroma had just wafted past - and placed his hand over his heart as if suggesting the next words he uttered would be the truth, the whole truth, and the entire truth, and said: "What can I tell you about the soup of the day? Two words," he said... "Life Changing!"

How's that for great salesmanship? How's that for not apologizing for price? How's that for being passionate? We turned, looked at each other, turned back and said the only thing we could say: "Two bowls of the Life Changing soup, please."

This Month's Trivia Answer

The smallest President was James Madison. Madison stood 5 feet, 4 inches tall and weighed less than 100 pounds. The tallest (of course) was President Abraham Lincoln at six feet, four inches. Speaking of which, the movie 'Lincoln' is out in a few days and should be amazing!
