You've Got to Throw Yourself In!
by Andrea
Waltz
I was tumbling, blindly, and flailing like a crazy person. I was four.
In pre-school. It's one of my earliest memories: the lady teaching me
how to swim somehow managed to free herself from my grip (despite
my grabbing her head and shoulders with a python-like
strangehold) and tossed me into the water. I eventually
righted myself and made my way back to her waiting arms. I
don't blame her, it had to be done. At some point the
screaming, crying water-tantrum had to be broken. There was no
reasoning with me.
I thought of this when I read a note on our facebook
page, from a young woman who
recently heard us speak: "just wanted to thank you as I have gone way
out of my comfort zone & thrown myself out there WAY more than
ever since then."
Like the lady with me in the pool, sometimes we just have to just get
thown in. Of course, now we have to rely on ourselves. There is no one
who will throw us. So, even though inside, we may be
screaming, terrified... there's just no reasoning with
oursevles. So, you've got to do it... throw yourself
in!

Month's Trivia
Answer |
The review was of
'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland' by Lewis Carroll. In
1998, Carroll's own copy of 'Alice' (one of only six surviving
copies of the 1865 first edition) was sold at an auction
for $1.54 million to an anonymous American buyer, becoming the
most expensive 19th-century work of literature) ever sold, up
to that time.
