The F Word
by
Richard Fenton & Andrea
Waltz
The
stigma of the F word - Failure - is all around us. Several
years ago the "loser" trend began - holding your thumb and
index finger into an L onto your forehead, calling out, "Loser!"
Now it's FAIL. Go on twitter and search
for #fail; you'll find thousands of recent
tweets relating to personal failures and everyone else's too.
It sure seems like you better not get caught failing
at anything these days. The ridicule, being
ostracized from friends and family, feelings of being
unworthy... Yet
the question is: who are you living your life for? For you?
Or for other people? Are you living just to please others? To
avoid being labeled a "failure" or a "loser"?
When we got together as a couple back in 1998 - we caused a major
scandal at the company we worked for. Then we both quit our jobs at
that company to start a business together. Everyone
thought we were crazy. And we knew we could fail.
It's 14 years later and we have had some great failures and
successes along the way. But we're still together, in
business, and still totally in love with each other and our choices.
Looking back it seems like a miracle that we are where we
are.
With all that we lacked (and it was substantial!) we truly
made it up in the willingness to fail. That is the one trait
that has never left us. Ultimately...
no one will remember your failures, only your successes.

the Go for No! Movie |
"You
have to accept the fact that the word 'No' is part of life. We will not
always hear 'yes' to everything that we seek and desire. When we hear a
'No' it really becomes a test as to how bad we want something." - Jeff
Blackman
