NOteworthy Thought of the Month

"The truth is that our finest moments are most likely to occur when we are feeling deeply uncomfortable, unhappy, or unfulfilled. For it is only in such moments, propelled by our discomfort, that we are likely to step out of our ruts and start searching for different ways or truer answers." - M. Scott Peck

This Month's Trivia Question

Where did the term "sleep tight" come from? Think you know? Find out below!

Get Comfortable with Discomfort
by Andrea Waltz

We had just completed a one hour workout with our personal trainer, Scott, when (through gasping breaths) I said to him, "I can't wait until this gets easier!"  Meaning; the better shape I'm in, the less the workout will be difficult and uncomfortable - less painful. Scott's answer was not what I expected! He said, "Don't worry, it will never get easier."

I was immediately dismayed at this answer. I was working out to get better - to stop struggling! Right?! Scott then said, "Andrea as soon as I see that you're progressing, we're going to up your weights or you'll do more reps. I want you working out this hard every time."

My annoyance fading, I realized how brilliant it was. Building muscle, building stamina in cardio is not about getting to some magic plateau to then cruise in comfort. It's about pushing. Sweating. Always working until you can't give more... failing. It's the only way to GROW.

I realized it's how it is in business too. You've got to push. We're trying new things and failing with some, succeeding at others. We're learning this: get comfortable with being uncomfortable.

NOtable Quotables from the Go for No! Movie

"Approach 'no' like 'no' is an average thing. It's not special. It doesn't have any special power over you. You can control the 'no' if you understand how the 'no' gets to yes." - KT Jones

This Month's Trivia Answer

In the late 1500's/early 1600's mattresses were filled with straw and held up with a rope stretched across the bed frame. If the rope was tight, sleep was comfortable leading to the phrase, "sleep tight."
