Thought of the Week |
"True
heroism is remarkably sober, very undramatic. It is not the urge to
surpass all others
at whatever cost, but the urge to serve others at whatever
cost.” - Arthur Ashe

A
Shining Example
by
Richard Fenton & Andrea Waltz
Recently
we were eating lunch at a Subway sandwich shop. There was also a man
there with his son who looked to be around ten years old. We watched
them order and sit down with their food.
A moment later, in walked two military guys, dressed in their fatigues.
As the guys went to pay, the man stood up, went over to the register
and paid for the lunch of these two soldiers. They were surprised, both
reached out - shook his hand, and thanked him. He thanked them back.
After the man finished lunch with his son, he nodded to the guys as he
left. We watched the man cross the street with his son, a shining
example to his boy, and get into an aging station wagon. He
may not be rich with money, but he is rich in character.
"How important it is for us to recognize and celebrate our heroes and
she-roes!" ~Maya Angelou
In memory of all those who have served.
