Thought of the Week |
"I
think the whole concept of success and failure needs to be
re-thought. We're such a success-oriented culture, but I think
what we need is more failure. Improvements only happen when you try
things differently." - Richard Farson, author, Whoever Makes The Most
Mistakes Wins

All You Gotta Do is Ask!
by
Richard Fenton & Andrea Waltz
August 27,
1972. One of the hottest days on record in the state of
Oregon. Now, when we say 'hot' we're talking a skin-scalding 107
degrees! Speaking of skin, there was a lot of it that day -
because most of the 100,000+ people there got SO hot they simply took
off their clothes... all to the live music of The Grateful Dead.
Besides the heat, this was one of the very most important days to
a (then) small yogurt company. Chuck and Sue Kesey
owned a small company called Springfield Creamery, which was on the
verge of going out of business. And that's when they got the
idea to ask The Grateful Dead - who were doing a concert in San
Francisco the day before - if they would truck-on-up to Oregon and do a
benefit concert to help save their business.
Everyone told them the idea was ridiculous - you don't just ask a rock
band, especially as big as The Grateful Dead - to simply come do a free
concert. Fortunately Chuck and Sue Kesey didn't listen,
because this week Springfield Creamery celebrated its 50th year in
business - with Jerry Garcia's voice, no doubt, somewhere in the
background. But, seriously, how did they get the Grateful
Dead to do this?? Yep, they just asked.

Quotables from
the Go for No! Movie |
"No
is only the beginning of 'not now', or not the way you're presenting it
or not the way I'm looking at it. So I just try to find more creative
ways to ask different questions, to make sure that we've either hit a
permanent cul-de-sac and there are legitimate reasons why this will
never work, or if this really is just a "not now." - Scott Zimmerman
