NOteworthy Thought of the Week

"Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure or nothing." - Helen Keller

This Week's Trivia Question

The average cup of coffee contains many different chemical components, none of which is tasted in isolation but all of which come together as part of the overall flavor.  Bet you can't guess how many!  See below...

This Week's NOtivational Article

New Year, New You... Really? (Part 4 of 4)
by Richard Fenton & Andrea Waltz

Over the last three weeks we wrote about how most New Year's resolutions are not kept, and the reason for this is "Iceberg Beliefs" (beliefs that lurk below the surface of our thinking).  And we asked you to do some homework on YOUR iceberg beliefs. Did you do it? Good! (We knew you would!) So, once you've identified your iceberg beliefs, what do you do? The answer is a two-step process:

1) Understand that many of the things you used to believe turned out not to be true.  For example:

•    There are monsters under your bed (or your closet!)
•    There is nothing better than _______ (fill in the food you loved when you were 10).
•    My parents know absolutely everything!
•    (Girls/Boys) are gross!
•    If I can just make $XX,000 per year, everything will be perfect.
•    And on and on and on!

Face it - as you grew up, you changed your mind about a LOT of things! So why not change your mind about your limiting iceberg beliefs as well?

2) Which brings us to Step #2, which is to RE-WRITE your limiting iceberg beliefs.  For example:

Your Iceberg Belief regarding...

...Failure:
"Failure means I'm doing something wrong."

Your possible RE-WRITE: "Failure means I'm making progress."
...Success:  "I must be a success at all costs."
Your possible RE-WRITE: "I must give full effort and the results are what they are."
...Life:  "Life should be fair."
Your possible RE-WRITE: "Life is not always fair, but it's always full of possibilities."
...Exercise: "Exercise is pain."
Your possible RE-WRITE: "Exercise is freedom from pain."
...Money:  "Money is the root of all evil."
Your possible RE-WRITE: "Money makes generosity possible."
...Selling:  "Selling is the art of twisting someone's arm until they say, YES."
Your possible RE-WRITE: "Selling is solving other's problems."
...Living Your Dream:  "Pursuing my dreams is a waste of time - it's too late for me."

Your possible RE-WRITE: "My dreams are the purpose of my life."
...Retirement:  "Retirement is the reward for years of working in a job you hate."
Your possible RE-WRITE: "Retirement is for people who aren't living their mission."
...Iceberg Beliefs:  "I know I have subconscious beliefs that impact my life, but so what? Everyone does!"
Your possible RE-WRITE: "My iceberg beliefs govern my behavior, but I can re-write them if I so choose!"

We know what you're thinking: "But you didn't have my childhood. You don't understand. My beliefs are too ingrained to change."  True - we didn't have YOUR childhood - we had ours.  And your iceberg beliefs are probably deeply ingrained.  But have you considered that your belief that you can't change your beliefs IS one of your iceberg beliefs? (Try to wrap your mind around that one!)

And one more thing.  We've come to an inescapable realization: "It's never too late to have had a wonderful childhood." All you have to do is re-write it. Cool, huh?

NOtable Quotables from the Go for No! Movie

"My goal was to do three presentations per week, 12 a month, knowing that probably 11 of them would say "No" and my goal was to sign up one person a month for two years. I was going to sign up one person a month for two years, do 12 presentations a month, three a week on my lunches, every single week. Regardless of, it didn't matter what anybody said to me, didn't matter if they were negative or if they were angry or if they were happy or if they were complacent or interested. I was going to do 12 presentations a month for two years, knowing that if I did that, I'd probably sponsor 20 to 30 people. I signed up 19 people in two years. My 19th person signed up a lady in New Mexico who led me to over 12,000 distributors, and over 40,000 customers, and it made me my first million dollars." - Jordan Adler, author, Beach Money
