NOteworthy Thought of the Week

"One of the huge imbalances in life is the disparity between your daily existence, with its routines and habits, and the dream you have within yourself of some extraordinarily satisfying way of living." - Wayne Dyer

This Week's Trivia Question

This man did not speak until age 4. Didn't read until age 7. His teacher described him as "slow, unsociable, and adrift forever in his foolish dreams." He was expelled and refused admittance to the Zurich Polytechnic Shool. Any idea who this is? See below...

New Year, New You... Really? (Part 3 of 4)
by Richard Fenton & Andrea Waltz

Over the last two weeks we talked about how most New Year's resolutions are not kept - in fact, most are abandoned just about now!  And we talked about the reason - a thing called "Iceberg Beliefs" that lurk below the surface of our thinking. Now, the question is: What are YOUR iceberg beliefs?

So, let's get to work! (We know this is not a workshop. But what the heck!  If you want to become the type of person who makes resolutions to change and actually keeps them, there's going to be work involved!)

What ARE your iceberg beliefs (many of which were implanted during childhood) regarding...
  •     Failure?  "Failure means I'm doing something wrong."
  •     Success?  "I must be a success at all costs."
  •     Life?  "Life should be fair."
  •     Exercise? "Exercise is pain."
  •     Money?  "Money is the root of all evil."
  •     Selling?  "Selling is the art of twisting someone's arm until they say, YES."
  •     Living Your Dream?  "Pursuing my dreams is a waste of time - it's too late for me."
  •     Retirement?  "Retirement is the reward for years of working in a job you hate."
Make the list! Explore every belief you have that might be holding you back in any area of your life.  And next week (in the final installment of this four-part article) we'll share how you can 'melt' these negative, below-the-surface thoughts.  Cool, huh?

NOtable Quotables from the Go for No! Movie

"If someone hears the word "No" and they retreat, it probably wasn't that important to them. If they hear the word "No" and they treat it as "not yet," then the question becomes, "what are you willing to do?" - Jeff Blackman

    This Week's Trivia Answer

If you guessed Albert Einstein, you would be right!

    This Week "In the Club"

We are often asked: What do you think is the greatest selling strategy ever created?  What a question!  We usually respond the same way: the greatest sales strategy ever created is to fail your way to success... to go for no!  Of course, there's no way to say definitively what THE single greatest sales strategy is, because it always depends on the specific selling situation at hand. Which got us to thinking.

If you could have a sales "bag of tricks"... a "Greatest Sales Strategies Toolkit" if you will... what should be in it? So, after serious consideration, we came up with a list of every great concept, technique, and strategy we've ever come across - which turned out to be over fifty items!  Then we went to work narrowing the list down to what we believed are the top twelve... THE "DYNAMIC DOZEN"... that, if mastered, could have the most significant impact on sales results for just about anyone!  So over the course of 2010 we're going to share them, one each month throughout the year!

To be clear: The 12 Strategies we're going to share are...
  •     NOT about advertising or copywriting techniques (though important)
  •     NOT about prospecting by phone or setting appointments (while critical)
  •     NOT about things like image and time management, either.

These are the tools and techniques needed to 'move the ball' forward and 'close the deal' once you get nose-to-nose (or, in the case of telephone sales, voice-to-ear).  And we understand that this is OUR list, and that you may disagree.  So, if your favorite strategy has not made the cut, drop us a note - we'd love to hear your strategy for possible inclusion in a future list! In any case, January's strategy is: "OFFERING PROOF."  Come have a listen!
