NOteworthy Thought of the Week

What if, one day, you decided to confront your fears face-to-face, to look them in the eye and declare, "I will no longer allow you to control my life!" And imagine your surprise when you looked into the abyss, only to discover... you.

This Week's Trivia Question

According to a recent survey, 41% of executives reported being bothered by the "emotional outbursts" of others during business meetings.  But there were at least five things that bothered them more. Care to guess what they were? Keep reading...

Living by Adjective
by Richard Fenton & Andrea Waltz

You've probably heard of the acronym "M.B.O." which stands for "management by objective", first popularized by management guru Peter Drucker in 1954.  Well, here's an acronym you probably haven't heard of...  LBA... Living By Adjective. If you remember your grammar lessons, an adjective is a word whose role is to give more information about a noun.  For example, a dog is a dog is a dog, right? Well, it is until you add big, scrawny, scruffy, scary, cute, wild, lovable, etc.... at which point the dog becomes something else entirely.

Which bring us to the point about you and your life.

The newspaper here in Portland carried a front page article about comic books, and they showed the first page of the original Spiderman®.  And there, at the bottom of the page, was the "By Line" box with the names of the creators, comic book legends Stan Lee, Steve Ditko and S. Rosen.  But it didn't just show their names - it read...

Stealthily Scripted by Stan Lee...
Painstakingly Plotted by Steve Ditko...
Lovingly Lettered by S. Rosen.

And, we believe, those adjectives made all the difference in the careers of these legends, it's what put them head-and-shoulders above their competition.  Or should we say, their uninspired competition.  So, are you LBY? And, if you are, what do your adjectives say about you?

NOtable Quotables from the Go for No! Movie

John Milton Fogg (Answering the question: "How do you respond to hearing NO?")...  "A pretty immediate willingness to move on. Realizing that that "No" is not the end of the world. That's how I used to hold it. "No" is really like a death sentence. That sounds crazy coming out of my mouth. And it's not - it's part of the game, it's part of the journey."
