New Year, New You... Really? (Part 1 of 4)
by
Richard Fenton &
Andrea Waltz
Here we go, another new year full of promise... and promises.
Make any for the new year? You're not alone - most people
do. We erroneously call them resolutions ('erroneously'
because our 'resolve' is usually short lived. But, why?
Why does our resolve seem to melt away faster than snow on a
warm spring day? Because a new year has come, but WE OURSELVES are not
new. The calendar has changed, but WE have not.
The 'New Year' brings hope that we will be better... different...
changed. But 'hope' does not a good plan make.
Here's a thought: Why not get rid of all the resolutions you've made -
just get rid of them right now... the promise to exercise... the diet
plan... the intention to spend more time with the family... or go to
church every Sunday... and simply dump them (not the motivation you
were hoping for, huh?) And - instead - make a single
resolution. The only one that will ever really change things.
And that resolution? Resolve to change yourself at the only level that really matters. To
change your underlying thinking. Because once THAT changes,
the other stuff (the behaviors) will change, too.
What thinking are we talking about? And how do you change it?
That will be the focus of our next two NOtivational articles (January
11 & 18).
Don't miss them - this is REALLY good (and important) stuff.

Quotables from
the Go for No! Movie |
"If I can keep from
taking it personally, then I can dust myself off and get up and keep
going. When someone says 'No,' I've learned that they're not rejecting
me, they're just rejecting my offer. So today, that offer may not be
what's right for them. It may not be the right time. It may not be the
right price point, but that's OK. They're not rejecting me, they're
just rejecting my offer." -Lethia Owens
