Striving versus Arriving by Andrea Waltz Once I finish school. Once I get promoted. Once I hit quota. Once I land the dream client. Then I'll be happy. But then… you're not. This is the Arrival Fallacy. The belief that happiness
finally arrives once you've "made it." (I remember being sure that our profile in Success Magazine would guarantee a tidal wave of nonstop easy success.) Uh, no. 😬 As Gertrude Stein said about getting there, "There is no ‘there, there.'" So the thinking: Once I get this deal… Once I hit this number and make this $ amount… Once I make President’s Club… But even when you do, the joy fades quickly. You adapt. You move the finish line! Learn to enjoy the
process, not just the product of it. That means embracing the journey including the Nos, the rejections, and the setbacks. Because those are the proof that you're in motion. If you aren't finding meaning in
the process itself, it may be time to ask yourself some tough questions. Because you only get one shot at this life, why waste it waiting for "once I" to make you happy? When you cling to "once I get that Yes…" as proof of your worth, you keep chasing an illusion. Your mindset becomes striving without ever
arriving. Go for No isn’t about the destination. It’s about building a life where the journey itself fuels you. This way you can arrive every day.
