Let No Protect You from a Bad Yes by Andrea Waltz "Acceptance, under someone else’s terms, is worse than rejection." - Mary Cassatt (Mary was a painter in the 1800's and I have no idea how she was so wise, but this quote hits hard.) In honor of the first week of NOvember, let's talk about good and bad NOs. In sales, we love "yes" but sometimes the YES costs too much. Too much time. Too much energy. Too many compromises. We've learned this the hard way. We once had a client we tried to "let go" before we even got started. They kept asking us to remove or change parts of our material-our core message! They came back, promised to play by the rules, and we agreed. But deep down? We knew. We knew it should have been a no. And sure enough… in the end, they still weren’t happy. We weren't happy. And we parted ways, painfully. The Go for No
philosophy isn’t just about pushing for more NOs. It’s about protecting yourself from the wrong YES. A YES that’s forced, conditional, or misaligned will turn into a migraine headache. The kind of deal that drains you and your team, wrecks morale, or eats your
calendar. So don’t fear the No. (A good no is better than a bad yes.) Fear the Bad Yes.
