We thought it would be fun to pull a short piece out of the book and share for today's NOtivational message. This is a conversation between Eric's daughter Cassidy and a character named Reena... here's a
little snippet of the scene: When Cassidy walked into the kitchen, Reena was there. “Tea?” Reena asked, pouring water into a mug. “No thanks. I need a Red
Bull.” Cassidy opened the refrigerator. “I’m exhausted. I feel like I am literally riding on a roller coaster. Someone seems interested, I send information, then I get a bunch of nos. I follow up with the interested person, and they don’t call me back—” “Ah, the yes-no emotional roller coaster,”
Reena sighed. “Welcome to sales.” “Wait. You sell?” Cassidy asked. “I thought you designed courses?” “Of course, I sell. To be successful at what I do, I have no choice. No one does. I have to sell myself all the time. I have to sell my competence. I have to sell my vision and my ideas. I sell hard,
too. And people tell me ‘no’ a lot.” Cassidy remembered her conversation with her father about everyone being in sales. “How do you deal with it?” Cassidy asked. “Have you ever been on an airplane with a little turbulence?” Reena asked. “Of
course,” said Cassidy, sipping her drink. “It’s a bit unsettling at first. The plane shaking and buffering against the wind. Eventually, you settle in. You see that it’s not going away. In fact, it’s keeping the plane in the air. And before long, you hardly notice it.” “Until, bam!” Cassidy said, slapping her hands together. “True enough,” Reena said with a slight grin. “But the longer you do it, the more you’ll settle into the turbulence, because it’s always a little bumpy no matter how good you are. Now, if you are on a roller coaster, it’s up to
you to get off of it.”
