My friend Kristie Jones is releasing her book, "Selling Your Way IN" today, and in honor of her great work, I wanted to share a little excerpt from what she calls #Kristieisms (principles she lives by as a sales professional and person) with you.Â
You'll get a taste of Kristie's personality after reading this and hopefully this will inspire you to want to learn more.Â
From the book: Â Â
#ownyourownshitÂ
This is a prerequisite for owning your own income, and you're going to see this one a lot! This was a result of the fatigue I was feeling every time a sales rep came into my office to complain about their territory, the marketing department, the product, their SDR (sales development
representative), or even me! The more I've coached from this perspective, the more passionate about accountability I've become.Â
Before I recognized the power of personal accountability, I tried to be sympathetic about their rough life or personal circumstances, but when I did that, these sessions became a bitchfest and not
solution-focused.Â
So I flipped the script and took the monkey off my back and put it on theirs. I would allow them to complain for a few minutes before I said, "Own your own shit." Their eyes always got big, and they just stared at me. Now that I had their attention, I said, "That's the issue; now what can you control? You can only control your behavior,
so what do you want to do about what you can control?"
It's empowering to take control of a situation you initially believe is out of your control. So #ownyourownshit.Â
My take?Â
I don't know about you but sometimes I need to hear this.Â
Kristie also writes that you don't have to have the typical "sales profile" but you should create your own success profile and plan. And that's a big
part of what her book shares. That's why the subtitle says it all: The Playbook for Setting Your Income and Owning Your Life.
Who doesn't want that??
