1. You’ll Be Crowned
Successful.
Who on this planet is in charge of crowning someone a “success?”
There are some people who are “King and Queen” makers. I’m thinking of Simon Cowell on all the talent shows. Other than that…
What is the criteria to be
deemed a success?
- How much money is required?
- How much fame?
- How many degrees?
- How much time spent?
No one gets to define what success is for you, more than you.
As a society we all agree that people who have invented things or worked hard in a single endeavor, or have made a lot of money are successful. Nothing wrong with that. We see these people in
the media and they’re looked upon by the majority as “successful.”
For those of us who are not in the public sphere being judged by millions, (most of us) where is the line between success and non-success?
There is no award ceremony and no crown coming unless you're going for Miss
Universe, so don’t wait for one.
2. Work is Over Once You Arrive.
Success isn’t a big platform in the sky. It’s not like once you climb the ladder and reach the top, that’s it and you’re done.
Assuming you have reached your definition of success, the next thing is staying there and maintaining it.
The doctor who has reached the heights of the medical profession gets more training year after year.
All the successful people we know are continuously learning new marketing strategies and technologies to stay relevant. They invest in themselves because they know it pays off. The best singers and songwriters collaborate with each
other to come up with new and interesting songs even as their current hit plays on the radio.
The people who do reach success don’t get complacent. They keep working, learning, and growing to stay there.
Don’t look at success at a destination. It’s a never-ending journey.
3. Successful People Don’t Fail
No
matter how many rock stars, celebrity chefs, and business tycoons, you have seen online or on TV, there was one day that was the first time you saw them.
That first exposure was probably NOT a story about their failure. It was about their new hit, their successful restaurant chain, or their latest investment of 500 million dollars
into Bitcoin.
As a culture, we are shown nothing but “success stories” and rarely the failure stories: the bankruptcies, rejections, stupid decisions, and horrible auditions.
If you are working towards success in any endeavor, accept right now that the path to that success will include failure. As you encounter obstacles, and you still want to achieve your goal, the answer is not to turn around and go back.
Why does this matter?
Because I believe that these lies hold people back from starting.
Don't let these lies fool you.
Your "success" is something that you
choose. No one gets to define what success is for you, more than you.
Don't wait to be crowned. Keep growing. And don't let failure hold you down.
