This Month's NOtivational NOte
|
Hey there!
Wherever and however this note finds you, we hope you're doing well. With everything going on in the world, we wanted to focus on mindset this month starting with a quote from Marcus Aurelius:
"If you are distressed by anything external, the pain is not due to the thing itself but to your own estimate of it; and this you have the power to revoke at any moment."

The Three Things You Should be Telling Yourself Everyday Especially Now
by Andrea Waltz
Nothing impacts your mindset more than what you say to yourself. In my experience as an entrepreneur and teaching go for no for 20+ years* these are the three most important things you should be telling yourself, especially now...
One… You can do it. Why say this?
Seth Godin said, “At the heart of the question, Will it work? is, I’m afraid. What matters is, Are you brave enough to try?” Courage is a requirement. Being without fear is not. That's what courage is all about.
You need to constantly remind yourself that you can do hard things, despite the fear. And you can do this!
Two… You are worth it. Why say this?
I’ve learned (myself included) that most humans suffer from some sort of feeling of unworthiness. So when you start going after your goals and dreams, the voice in your head says, Why you? You don’t deserve this! Who are you anyway?
You need to work on removing what Gay Hendricks calls, your “upper limit problem.” That is, the amount of happiness and success you will allow yourself to experience. Keep building your self-esteem, and come to believe that you are deserving of the success you are reaching for, otherwise, you will sabotage it at every turn.
Three… Don’t give up. Why say this?
Success is not easy. Anyone who says so is lying to you. Or selling you something. Giving up often becomes a very attractive option. Starting is hard.
Finishing is so. much. harder.
Thomas Edison said, "Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time."
Give yourself these reinforcing messages. Speak them! You will experience failure, rejection, no, obstacles, and naysayers who don’t believe in you. We all talk to ourselves. Make sure you're saying the right things.
(*Even when we hit thirty years, I'll still be using 20+ years!)

"Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should."
