I hear this a lot: "I don't want to sell."
Your doctor sells.
Your accountant sells.
Your dentist sells.
The veterinarian sells.
"No, they help..."
Ah, ha. Now you're getting it.
One of our favorite movies of all time is Jerry Maguire.
Have you seen it?
There's a scene with Tom Cruise and Cuba Gooding Jr. in the locker room where Jerry Maguire (Tom Cruise) is begging football player Rod Tidwell (Cuba Gooding Jr.) to be flexible and easier to work with.
And Jerry says to him, "Help me, Help You. Help Me. Help You."
It's an iconic scene. Funny. Painful even.
And that's selling.
Sometimes we feel desperate. Frustrated. Or hanging on by a thread like Jerry. Those are real feelings but they divert the focus.
As you go for no in the balance of November, remember your intentions.
If it is to help others and you know that "to sell is to serve," then in order to really serve in the best way, a sale must happen.
In the end, selling is helping.
